Financial Management -
Recent Developments and Current Trends will focus on
internal financial reporting issues relevant to all levels of government
– federal, provincial and municipal. Drawing upon his
experiences, Bill Mathews will discuss what Deputy Ministers and Chief
Financial Officers need from internal financial reports and what they
aren’t getting. He will relate these needs back to policy
frameworks and international trends. Bill will also
speak to emergent trends in Public Accounts and the increasing demands
placed upon those responsible for reporting.
Bill Matthews joined the Office of
the Comptroller General in 2004. He was appointed Assistant
Comptroller General of the Financial Management Sector in August
2009. His policy responsibilities include government
accounting, financial management, costing and user fees as well as

initiatives. He is responsible for financial reporting in the
areas of the Public Accounts and departmental financial
statements.
