The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) operates a network of over 174 “missions” composed of Embassies, Consulates and other offices across the globe. Thirty federal and provincial government departments and agencies operate from these missions abroad. DFAIT’s International Platform Branch provides common services to those 30 departments and agencies in this worldwide network of offices. Common services include office accommodation, employee residences, IM/IT, HR, procurement and finance. These
services are delivered in more than 110 countries with culturally diverse political, legal and financial frameworks, where inflation can reach double digits and exchange rates vary significantly. Pierre Sabourin, Assistant Deputy Minister, International Platform Branch will describe this unique context where risk takes on new meanings, and provide insight in the life of FIs posted abroad who help Canada succeed in the world.
