FIs IN THE GLOBAL MARKETPLACE
The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) operates a network of over 174 “missions” composed of Embassies, Consulates and other offices across the globe. Thirty federal and provincial government departments and agencies operate from these missions abroad. DFAIT’s International Platform Branch provides common services to those 30 departments and agencies in this worldwide network of offices. Common services include office accommodation, employee residences, IM/IT, HR, procurement and finance. These services are delivered in more than 110 countries with culturally diverse political, legal and financial frameworks, where inflation can reach double digits and exchange rates vary significantly. Pierre Sabourin, Assistant Deputy Minister, International Platform Branch will describe this unique context where risk takes on new meanings, and provide insight in the life of FIs posted abroad who help Canada succeed in the world. |

INTERNAL CONTROL REPORTING PRACTICES BY OTHER NATIONAL GOVERNMENTS AND COMPARISON WITH THE NEW INTERNAL CONTROL POLICY REQUIREMENTS
The Treasury Board Policy on Internal Control requires the Deputy Minister and the Chief Financial Officer to sign a new annual Statement of Management Responsibility Including Internal Control over Financial Reporting. In the private sector and in other national governments, this report is already produced. Join us to be able to answer these questions: What are the differences between the Canadian, US and UK model? FRAUD AND INTERNAL CONTROLS
This workshop will review how strong internal controls can help prevent fraud from occurring in businesses. It will look at the relevance of internal controls; ethics policies; risk assessment; and internal controls in a computer based environment. There will be a discussion of common internal fraud schemes such as skimming, fraudulent disbursements, expense reimbursement schemes, bribery, payroll schemes and inventory schemes. |
