In Canada, the concept of sustainable development has been integrated into federal legislation. The Federal Sustainable Development Act, passed in 2008, will strengthen sustainable development practices within the federal government. The Province of New Brunswick is also focused on addressing current challenges in an effort to return to sustainable government spending, programs and services.

Making a Difference
fmi*igf Canada is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit association, founded in 1962. It is directed by volunteer boards, both nationally and regionally, with the support of a small support staff. Through a variety of committees and working groups, committed and capable volunteers deliver an impressive annual program.
Over the years, we at fmi*igf have constantly re-evaluated its Mission. It is now stated as: " The fmi*igf is a national volunteer organization which facilitates and provides a forum for dissemination of information on managing public sector resources." More than this, fmi*igf recognizes the need for exchange with outside groups and students - the managers of tomorrow.
The Fredericton Chapter of fmi*igf was officially launched in May 1991. Since then, today our membership stands at over 100 people consisting mostly of provincial and federal civil servants with financial or administrative backgrounds.
Luncheon-speaker events are popular with our chapter. Our very first function, an Address to Members by the Minister of Finance of New Brunswick, has since become an annual tradition. During our fifteen-year history, the Fredericton Chapter of fmi*igf has also hosted speakers like Charles Antoine St-Jean (Comptroller General of Canada) and Micheal Eastman (Executive Director, Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation). From the provincial scene, our chapter hosted speakers like Bernard Lord (Former Premier of New Brunswick), Jeannot Volpé (Former Minister of Finance), Kim MacPherson (Comptroller of New Brunswick) and Mike Ferguson (Auditor General). The Fredericton Chapter also hosted and organized the 1996 and the 2002 Public Sector Management Workshop.
fmi*igf is about sharing information and ideas. Our chapter wants to enhance your work experience! Want to know the issues? Want to access a diverse and experienced network of professionals?
