Mr.
Monette is a chartered accountant and holds a Masters of Business
Administration from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Science
from Carleton University. In 1981, after several years with a major
chartered accountants firm, he started his public service career in the
Office of the Comptroller General. He subsequently worked for a number
of federal departments and agencies in Ottawa and western Canada. In
2000-2001, he served as Assistant Comptroller General and Assistant
Secretary, Financial Management Policy, Expenditure Analysis and
Operations Sectors, Treasury Board Secretariat. He was with the
Department of National Defence between 2002 and 2007, where he served
as Associate Deputy Minister of National Defence, prior to his return
to the Office of the Comptroller General in 2008 when he was appointed
Comptroller General of Canada, within the Treasury Board Secretariat.
Born in Regina, Rod Monette now lives in Ottawa with his wife and two
children.
As
the current global economic crisis continues to unfold and the federal
government works to implement Budget 2009 in a responsive and
responsible manner, comptrollership and accountability have become more
important than ever. As Comptroller General of Canada, Rod Monette is
responsible for providing government-wide functional direction and
assurance for financial management and internal audit. Rod will
discuss the government’s work on management accountability, Canada’s
revised financial management policy suite, risk management and capacity
issues. Rod will also share insights into how finance and internal
audit are supporting the implementation of Budget 2009.
