| MESSAGE FROM THE HONORARY CHAIR |

SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY BOARD OF CANADA
Honorary Chair - PD Week 2010
|
The Financial Management Institute of Canada’s 2010 Professional Development Week will trace government efforts to counter the effects of the global recession. Rarely have public resources on such a scale been dedicated to stimulating the economy. There is no doubt that public-sector managers and financial professionals must show more leadership than ever before. The economic situation and recovery are only some of the factors to consider when assessing risk; striking a balance when it comes to imposing controls will remain a major challenge for governments seeking to stimulate the economy.
Another topic of importance to us is public service renewal. While the baby boomers are retiring in increasing numbers, we must focus both on knowledge-sharing strategies and employee recruitment and development. Administrators have to simultaneously manage the transition, modernize work practices and deliver high-quality services and advice.
The theme for 2010 PD Week is “Risk and Control: Striking a Balance.” It was chosen to highlight the current context, and the conference’s program was developed to help you successfully meet these challenges. Recognized leaders in a variety of fields will share their perspectives on what makes a good leader, and you will learn how to lead your team to achieve the results you want, even under exceptionally difficult circumstances.
Your participation in 2010 PD Week is the best investment you will make all year.
I hope to see you at the Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel in Gatineau in November! Be sure to register.
Michelle d'Auray
Secretary of the Treasury Board of Canada
