fmi*igf ONTARIO ANNOUNCES ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP

Toronto, Ontario - The Financial Management Institute (fmi*igf) of Canada's Ontario Chapter is pleased to announce their annual scholarship initiative aimed at strengthening ties between public sector financial management and academic programs across the province. Each year, up to three scholarships valued at $1,000 each will be awarded to students currently enrolled in an accounting, finance, or business program at a recognized Ontario college or university who show an interest in working in financial management within the public sector upon graduation. 

"Last year's scholarships attracted a diverse and talented pool of applicants from across the Province, and we anticipate even more applicants this year" said Philip Watkins, CGA Chair of the Scholarship Committee.  He emphasized "The public service looks to attract the best and brightest students to meet a growing need for financial professionals.  Through this Scholarship Program the fmi*igf Ontario Chapter wishes to demonstrate our support of future public service sector colleagues.

All interested applicants are required to submit a 500 word essay.  The 2012/13 essay topic centers on financial analysis and reporting. Students are required to explain "How does government financial reporting drive policy decisions? Provide examples."

Applicants will also be required to submit a current resume detailing academic and professional history (including volunteer and extra-curricular activities), a current academic transcript, and must submit two references (one from a current fmi*igf member if possible). 

Applicants who are interested are encouraged to refer to the fmi*igf Ontario Chapter website (www.fmiontario.ca) for more information.  Applications are due no later than March 30, 2013. and scholarship winners will be notified on or before May 4th.  Award recipients will also be invited to our final Professional Development Day held in June in Toronto, to be presented with their award.

The Financial Management Institute delivers national and local professional development programs with a focus on high-level, universal themes to Federal, Provincial and Municipal government employees as well as employees working in Not-For-Profit organizations and charities.
